Later news says the rearguard was almost annihilated, and the whole Russian armj was in imminent danger of being surrounded. Prior to these report* General Kuropatkin had informed the Tsar that his troops were retreating in good order. At Port Arthur the Japanese have sustained repulse* with heavy losses. They are reported, however, to have captured the heights at Tongchaitsze, near the railway, and close to the foilices, and to be maintaining a very destructive bombardment.
