AUCKLAND ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was held at tho Museum Buildings yesterday afternoon, Mr. F. Earl in the chair. There were also present: Messrs. J. Burtt, C. S. billies, T. T. Mascfield, L. D. Nathan, H. Walker, A. C. Whitney, and Dr. Lewis.

Prioi to the .ordinary business a. special meeting was held, convened for the purpose of -Kinsidcring the report of a committee appointed to ihquiro into the proposal to remove tho hatchery from Waimakariri to Rotorua. The committee recommended that tho hatchery should bo removed, and a sum of £250, together with tho amount realised from the sale of liie present hatchery, bo donated to the erection of a hatchery at Rotorua, provided that tho Government would contribute 30s for ©very iiOs supplied by the society. The draft of a letter to be addressed to the Premier on the subject was also read, and considerable discussion took place. Mr. Nathan considered flint the amount proposed to be given by tho society, namely, £250. plus the proceeds of the present hatchery, was rather more than the society could afford, and ho moved, as an amendment, that the amount be reduced to £150, plus the proceeds of the hatchery. The motion as amended was carried.

The ordinary meeting was then held. The monthly financial statement showed receipts ! amounting to £2 13s, and payments to £46 13s lOd. There was a balance in the Bank of New Zealand of £119 13s lid. It was agreed to continue tho vote of £12 per year for the travelling expenses of delegate from ! Kotorua to the society. A memorandum was i read from the imspcctor of police giving j particulars of a conviction obtained by Con- ' stable iuavno, of Piriaka. It was agreed to pay the usual gratuity of £3 to the constable. It was stated that the Government had acceptcd the whole of the recommendations made by the society respecting the { game season. They had agreed to prohibit the 1 sale of both native and imported game, and ' to declare the County of Eden closed against shooting of all kinds of game. The curator's monthly report was read, dealing principally with the position of affairs at the hatchery and the prospects of a successful spawning season. - J j — j
