[PROU OUR OWN COKUKSrOXDENTS.'I HAMILTON. A MEETING of those interested in the formation of the Hamilton East Cricket Club, was held on Thursday evening. It was decided to form the club, officers were appointed, and the subscription fixed at ss. for mniors 2s 6d. Mr. J. Hammond promised a bat for the player who made the highest average score during the season. PAEEOA. . THE Woods-Williamson Company closed their season in this district at Paeroa to-night (Thursday). In each centre most successful performances were given. The company are proceeding to Taranaki. WHANGAREI. Mrs. BKPHAM'S children's concert on Wednesday night was a great success. There was a large audience. Mr. Hanley Hatchings, of Huanui, has returned to Whangarei after a trip to Yorkshire. He was welcomed back by a number of friends. The present rains have done good in enabling bush contractors to bring a large quantity of timber to tho mills, the creeks being kept full. The Whangarei Lawn Tennis Club held a meeting on Wednesday night, and arranged for what promises to be a successful season. 'IE AROHA.

THE monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. A. ,T. Farmer) and Messrs. Thomas. McIndoe, Rowe, and Hetherington. The Works Committee was authorised to have trees re-

mover! from Rewi-street, and to have an estimate prepared of the cost of drainage required in Morgantown. A demand was made by the Railway Department for half the yearly cost of the maintenance for road traffic of the road-railway bridge across the Waihou River at Te Aroha. It was contended that the Piako County was moro interested in the bridge than the Te Aroha Borough, and that the latter should not pay more than onethird of the cost. A deputation was appointed to discuss the matter with the Comity Council, and to urge that the two bodies should take joint action to secure the erection of a traffic bridge. Arrangements were made with Mr. Beswick, postmaster, who is installing electric light in the post office building, to supply iight for the street lamp at the post office corner. The tender of A. Johnson, 20s per chain, for formation of concrete channelling in Whitaker-street was accepted. Mr. Rogers, electrical engineer, waited on the Council, and stated his readiness to report upon and supervise tho electric lighting of the borough. He had examined the creek from which the present water supply is drawn, and was confident that abundant power was available. Mr. Rogers was thanked, and informed thai were his services required he would be notified. A meeting of those interested in the Te Aroha Cricket Club was held on Monday evening, Mr. C. F. Pilling in the chair. After discussion it was decided that the club should be resuscitated, the annual subscription to be 2s 6d. The following officers were appointed:—Patron: Mr. W. H. Hemes. M.H.R.; president, Mr. A. J. Farmer; vice-presidents, 25 gentlemen were elected; secretary. Mr. A. Coubrough; treasurer, Mr. R. 1.,. Somers; committee. Rev. K. M. Cowie, Messrs. G. Lewis, F. C. Pavitt, C. Beswick, and S. Lawson. Mr. Pilling generously offered to at once obtain for the club all necessary gear, his expenditure to be refunded when convenient. The secretary was instructed to challenge the clubs at "Waiorongomai, and Gordon. It was reported that a suitable ground was available in one of Mr. Edwards' paddocks, and the committee undertook to inspect this and get it in order. As the appetite for ping-pong was still unsatisfied, and as sufficient funds remained to provide prizes, and as Mr. Wallace offered the use of the hall free of charge, a second windup of the season, in the form of a handicap teurmime.it was held on Tuesday evening. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs. J. Smardon, the gentlemen sby Mr. W. Maingay. The play in the ladies' section proved very close and exciting. The presentation of the Piako Rugby Union caps, won this season by the Waihou Football Club, • was the occasion of a very enjoyable social in the Waihou Public Hall.i The presentation was made bv Mr. L. Bucfctan on behalt of the union. Dancing was kept going with spirit till the early hours. I PATER ANGI. ! LAST week the friends of Mr. S. C. Macky gave ! a social and dance to celebrate his marriage. I Mi'. Ma ok j has for many years been an active member of the football and rifle clubs. The gathering was not so large as it would; have been had the weather and other conditions been more propitious. A short musical programme was gone through. Mr. Germann. , who occupied the chair, referred to the great service Mr. Macky had rendered to the clubs, and added that his friends thought this a fitting opportunity to show their appreciation of them in a. tangible form. Be presented Mr. Macky with an English lever watch, chain, and medal, which bore the following inscription: " Presented to Mr. S C. Macky by mem- • bers of the Pateran»i« Rifle and Football Clubs." The chairman said he had also to , present an emblem of luck—a horseshoe made of flowers, the colours of the football club. Mr. Macky returned thanks for the beautiful | present. Dancing followed. j HAMILTON. ! AT a committee meeting of the Hamilton Rowing Club, the captain reported that he had completed the purchase of three pleasure boats and two four-oar gigs in Auckland. Several new members have been added to the roll since last meeting, and the prospects in front of the club are very promising. Only four members of the Waikato Gun Club : took part in the competition for the Colonial ; Ammunition Company's shield on Wednes- ' day. Ten shots were fired, the result being: ! —S. Harker. 7; F.
