Lord Wolseley's forthcoming autobiography should prove extremely interesting reading, but there is one anecdote of the distinguished general which will probably be omitted. The story runs that Lord Wolseley, on a tour of inspection round a. camp, ! came across one of the cooks carrying a tin of steaming fluid. "Stop a minute," said ■the general, as the man was about to pass ■ him, "I am going to taste that," " No, no, '" son-," said the cook, an Irishman, "indsde, sorr. ye mustn't!"
