WELLINGTON RACING CLUB'S

SPRING MEETING.

FIRST DAY.

[BY TELEGRAPH.PEJESS ASSOCIATION*.] Wellington, Wednesday. The Wellington Racing Club was favoured with perfect weather for the first day of the spring meeting. There was a very large attendance of the public, including His Excellency the Governor and party, and several members of Parliament. The course was very fast after the recent spell of dry weather. The racing was not up to the usual interesting standard, several of the events being of the runaway order. This was particularly the case in the Wellington Handicap, in which Pallas, who was established a warm favourite, made hacks of his field, and never left the issue in doubt from the raising of the barrier. Speculation per the medium of the totalisator was brisk, the sum of £10,029 being put through the machines, as compared with £7157 on the corresponding day of last year. The following are the results :—
