THE STAB OF AUSTRALIA .-AN ICEBERG rSA SIGHTED. | The Tyser liner Star or Australia, Captain | F. W. 'Clyatt, arrived from London and Australia last night, and anchored in the.quarantine ground to await medical and Customs inspection, which will be carried out this morning, and on completion the steamer will berth at the Queen-street Wharf to discharge. The steamer lett London on August 26, and made the run to Melbourne in the very good time ot 42 days, notwithstanding that the steamer's progress was much retarded by meeting with, strong south-east winds for some days after rounding the Cape of Good Hope. A gigantic iceberg was passed at some distance in latitude 45 south and longitude 51 east. Ihe berg was estimated to be about a mile ir» length. Finer weather conditions prevailed to Melbourne, which was reached on October 8, and after putting out consignments, the steamer proceeded on to Sydney, where she - arrived on the 11th. After discharging cargo, the voyage to Auckland was continued at 1 p.m. on Friday last. Cape Maria Van piemen, being passed at 3 p.m. ou Tuesday, the harbour being made as above. A strong easterlygale and very heavy sea was experienced all the way down the coast, and the steamer's passage lengthened considerably in conse-i , quence. Messrs. Heather, Roberton, and Co. are the local agents for the steamer, which proceeds South on discharge.

THE EVERTON GRANGE. The new steamer Everton Grange, under charter to the American and Australian line, and which is now on the voyage from New York to Australia and New Zealand, is a : large twin-screw steamer built by Farness. Whitby, and Co., of Hartlepool, to the order, of Houlder Bros, and Co., of London, and is intended for their cattle service and frozen) meat trade. She is 400 ft long; overall, 55ftt : extreme breadth, and • 36ft 31n deep. Her £j deadweight carrying capacity is 11,000 tons.
