COLOURED LABOUR ON MAH STEAMERS.

By Telegrraph.— Association.—Copyright, deceived May 28, 1.18 a.m.) MixnotrKNßj May 27. In the House the Postmaster-General stated that he had not yet taken any definite actioj with reference to Mr. Chamberlain's latest, despatch on the question of coloured labour on mail steamers. The Federal Government would probably ask the Colonial Ortk-e when jt proposed to make fresh agreements. If the steamers employed did not observe the provisions of the Postal Act as regards tap employment of white labour the Commonwealth would at ones make arrangements to have the mails from Australia conveyed at poundage rates by any suitable vessels. This system would remain in force till a fresh contract could be made for subsidising a company willing to undertake the carriage of the mails on the conditions pro* vided by the Postal Act.
