New Zealand Herald Office. Wednesday evening. The sharemarket was quiet, to-day. In investment lines Thames Gas sold at 29s and Jforthern Steamship Company (paid-up) at 153 6d. D.S.C.'s changed hands at 12s 6d. In mining lines, Drowns were done at lis 9d and lis lOd, sellers closing at 12s and buyers at lis 6d. New Four-in-Hands sold at 4d. Mara to were looked for at Bd, sellers 9d. Taj'rua Broken Hills wore a shade firmer at 6? 3d, buyers offering- 5s 9<l. For Talismans buyers quoted at 10s 3d, without sellers. Waihis were held at £5 12s, buyers £5 3s 6d. Bunker's Hills had buyers at 4s, sellers arcing 4s 3d. In other linos late prices ruled.

The feature was a line of magnificent bulloclw from Mastcrton. winch sold at £14 15s to £18 ss; ordinary steers, £6 7s 6d to £10; heifers, £5 17s 6d to £9- cows. £5 to £5 2s 6-J ; beef, 253 to 27s per 1001b. Fat sheep: A. large entry, which included a faiir proportion of first-class ewes and wethers. Butchers again compete- eagerly for the b9?t ewes, giving' beyond the limits of export buyers. Prices for wethers were unchanged, but ewes were decidedly firmer. Competition was keen, and prices ruling showed an advance, beef selling at from 25s to 265; best bullocks, £9 10s to £11 ss; medium, £7 15s to £9; best, cows and heifers, £7 10s to £9; medium. £6 to £7 ss.
