DEATH OF MR. E. ELLINGHAM.

Another of Auckland's early colonists has passed away in the person of Mr, Edmund Ellingham, of Custom-street, whose death took place at the age of 63 years, at his residence, Khyber Pass Road, last evening. Deceased was a native of Buckinghamshire, and came to the colony by the ship Pegasus in the year 1864, and in partnership with a fellow passenerer, Mr. W. Easdown, commenced business as a baker at premises in Queen-street, next to the old Wheateheaf Hotel. For over 50 years Mr. Ellingham has carried on the occupation of a general merchant, at which he was actively engaged until last December, when his health began t« fail. He was very well known in the country districts, especially in the North, and took a great interest in the welfare of the settlers. He was a man of sterling character and of a quiet kindly disposition. Since his arrival in Auckland he has been a member and faithful supporter of the Baptist Church, and was at the time of his death one of the elders of the Tabernacle. Deceased was a brother of Mr. J. Ellingham,, contractor, of this city, and leaves a widow,! two sons, and four daughters, the eldest of whom is married to Mr. 1. F. Hill.
