INFECTED BLANKETS.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.— London, May 22. The infected blankets from South Africa have been sold in 150 towns. (Received May 24, 5.14 p.m.) London, May 23. The Daily Mail says the sale of infected blankets was due to some War Office officials at Capetown committing a twofold breach of a regulation, the one prescribing the destruction of bedding likely to be infectious. The War Office has cabled inquiries and will deal summarily with the matter.

The Daily Telegraph's Capetown correspondent asserts that the, chief shipments were made by a Jewish commercial agent, who purchased them in the ordinary course from the Imperial authorities. Large quantities were burnt, but others were disinfected and sold after the bulk had been scoured.

The Daily Chronicle strongly accuses the War Office of negligence in this connection.
