OFFICE.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright.
Melbourne, May 13. The Colonial Office has definitely informed the Federal Government that it cannot prohibit the employment of coloured British labour on the mail steamers as provided in the Commonwealth Postal Act-. Ministers have not yet faced the situation, but the Postmaster-General states that if the British Government declines to co-operate the Commonwealth will make its own arrangements.
