NEW MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS AT WHANGAREI.
[BY TELECRAriT. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Whangarei, "Wednesday. The new County Council and Municipal Buildings, Whangarei were opened at 11 o'clock this morning, by Mr. H. G. Minchin, county chairman. The ceremony was held in the council room. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. Corhes) was present, as were also the members of the Whangarei County Council, and some of the ex-members and exchairmen of that body; also, Mr. J. M. Killen, ex-Mayor, members and ex-members of the Borough Council, county, and borough officials. Mr. F. Mander, M.H.R., Mr. R. Thompson, ex-M.H.11., Lieutenaut-Colonel Goring. Sergeant McLeod, Mr. T. P. Moody (manager ■ Hikurangi coal mines), Mr. Hobart (manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Whangarei branch), Captain Alderton (manager of Vinelands Wine Manufacturing Company), Mr. Holland (contractor for the buildlnL'), Mr. Lovatt (sub-contractor of the building), and others. After the official opening the. Mayor was installed in the chair' of office by Mr. J. MeKinnon, borough clerk. Mr. Minchin then took the chair, and a number of toasts were drunk and speeches made by those present. The County Council met at one o'clock for the transaction of business for the first time in the new buildings. ... . ~.._ ,
