ROMANCE ENDING IN ATTEMPTED
SUICIDE. PAE.Tictn.ARS of a romantic attachment which had its origin in Paris were related at Northampton Police Court lately. Mile. Jeanne d'Orcelle, a stylishly-dressed young Parisicnne, was charged with attempting to commit suicide. The girl, who is of good family, had formed an attachment for a young Parisian, whose family were also in good circumstances. The pro*posed engagement not commending itself to the young man's family he was sent to England, and took lodgings on the outskirts of Northampton One night lately there walked into the post office of that town Mile. Orcelle, who made inquiries in French for the youm'' man's address. Of English the voting wo° man knew not a. word, and site wr-s referred to the police, and with the help 0 a couple of detectives the search was prosecuted with success.
The young man was found at home and mademoiselle rushed upstairs. He afterwards came down to speak to the detectives. In his absence screams were heard, and the young woman was found writhing on the floor, suffering from poison. She" was removed to the infirmary, where the Frenchman was unremitting in his attentions Her friends were communicated with, and arrangements made for her return to Paris This was the story told the magistrate and the prisoner appearing very penitent she was discharged, the French Consular Agent undertaking to see that she was restored to her friends.
