In the juiuoi cup contest Native Rose defeated True Blue- by 12 points to 3. For the winners Graham scored two tries, Thomas one, and K.eUsall one, and Mr-mies scored a try for True Blues. Hawke's 'Bay v. Poverty Bay, was played, at Gishorne today, and was won by Poverty Buv by 11 points to 4. The game was fust and exciting, tho local men maintaining the advantage throughout. In the first spell Newton scored a try tor the homo team, and Balfour kicked a fine goal from a mark for the visitors. Haiae and Johnson scored tries for Poverty Bay in the second spell, one of which Williams converted, the game ending 11 points to *. Rain set in after the commencement, of the second spell, rendering the ground and ball greasy. Considering the conditions, the display was of a high- order, the excitement of the spectators being kept at concert pitch. The attendance was over 1000. The visitors- were entertained at dinner at night, and leave for homo to-morrow.
