FRENCH DROWNING MYSTERY
» — Tub body of a young woman, very prettily and fashionably dressed, was discovered floating in the Loire at St. Etienne. In the region of the heart was a wound which might have been caused by a dagger. A reticule found on the bank contained letters in French and English, bearing Paris and London postmarks, addressed to Mile. Bertlie Giraud, Hotel Regina, Paris. A sum of £30 was also found in the reticule, and beside it was a phial which had held a mixture of chloroform and laudanum. Nothing is known at the Hotel Regina concerning the young lady, and the police are at- a loss to decide whether the death is due to crime or suicide.
