OUTRAGES IN IRELAND.
o— —— MOONLIGHTERS AT WORK. I By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. ' London, September 11. { Midnight outrages have been perI petrated on the Do Freyne estate, Roscommon. A number of moonlighters burnt a hayrick, and completely wrecked the conservatory of a mansion purchased by the Congested Districts Board. A deputation of tenants on the Do Freyne estate recently waited on Dr. Clancy, Woan Catholic Bishop of the diocese, to ask his advice whether they should persist in their refusal to pay the. rents and brave all consequences. The Bishop said that he had authority to state that Lord De Freyne would consent to no .settlement, other than the payment of the full rents: Afterwards it was possible that they might consider the question of costs. Lord Do Freyne, Dr. Clancy said, had the landlords of Ireland at his back, and could get £20,000 to-morrow if lie wanted it. The Bishop, therefore, advised the tenants to pay their rents, and not to have themselves and their families thrown en the roadside.
