Hadley and Co.: Claim, for £21 5s lid, for work i one hy the plaint.if for the defendants in connection with tho Mnnukau water supply, Mr. Bam ford appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. Martin 'or the defendants. There was a counter-claim for the sum of £27 2s 6d. Mr. ...amford, in opening the ease, stated that Messrs. Had : ey and Co. were contractors for the Mnnnknu ' water supply, and engaged the- plaintiff to supply certain material and do certain work for them on tho contract. The plaintiff claimed the sum of £21 5a lid for the material supplied aml tho work done. Mr. Martin, for the defence, contended \iiat the work was improperly and unskilfully performed, and in consequence tho defendants had to purchase moro material and have the work dono again, therefore tho defendants set up a counter-claim for £27 2s 6;1. Evidence .was given by several witnesses on behalf of the plaintiff and by Mr. 11. 11. Metcalfe on behalf of tho defendants. On the application of Mr. Martin an • adjournment for a week was granted to enable the defendants to. subpoena another witness to give evidence on defendants' behalf. JUDGMENT BY CONSENT. Bond Brothers v. D. C. McMillan: Claim, £30 12s Bd. Mr. MacCormick appeared for the plaintiffs. Judgment by consent for the amount claimed and costs. A PAWNED PIANO. Lewis Roberts Kady v. Carpenter Arthur: Mr. Bamford appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. Alexander for this defendant. Mr. Brookficld watched the case on behalf of Mr. Olson. Mr. Bamford, in opening the case for the plaintiff, stated that the claim was for delivery of a piano, of which plaintiff was tho owner, or in default the sum of £15 and a further stun of £5 damages for detention of tho instrument, Tho facts of the case were that the piano was hired from Mr. Eady by a Mr. Ward at, Mount Eden, who paid the sum of £4 for biro. Later on the piano was found by the plaintiff to be in possession of the defendant. The plaintiff now sued for recovery of the instrument. For the defence Mr. Alexander stated that the piano had been pawned with Mr. Olsen, and laid been placed for sale by him with Mr. Arthur as an unredeemed pledge. Therefore, ha contended that the action should not have been taken against Mr. Arthur, who was merely acting as an agent. After further argument by counsel on points of law the case was adjourned for a week. ACTION FOR RENT. Louis Henry Neumegen v. tho Auckland Farmers' Co-operative Society, Limited: Claim, £17. Mr. McGregor appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. FiUherbert lor tho defendant company. Mr. McGregor, in opening the case, stated the claim was for rent of premises owned by the plaintiff in Greystreet and for damages caused by the defendant company to the premises. The premise? were lot to the company for a term of 12 months from February 1, 1901. at a weekly rental of 225. The company bad occupied the premises up till Novcmbe., and the rent. was paid up till November, The present, claim was for rent for the remainder of the term of 12 months and damages for windows broken by the company while in possession of the premises. Evidence was given in support of tho case by plaintiff and John Mendoza, and for the defence by Laurence Johnson, manager of the defendant company, and several former employees of the company. Judgment was given loi the plaintiff for £16 5.1 6d, with costs.

POLICE Trnmsnar. (Before Messrs. A. ,T. Alloni and Ziman, J.T'.'s.) Drunkenness: On this charge a firstOffender was convicted and discharged. Mary Ann O'Brien, fo. a second offence within six tnontlu, was paid, 10s, Louis Olscn, for a similar offence, was fined ss, or in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Vagrancy: An elderly man named Joseph Rainbow pleaded guilty to being found unlawfully on the. premises of 11. Shenk in Al-bert-street, and was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment.

Stone-throwing Thomas Hosking, for whom M.. Pilkington appeared, pleaded guilty to throwing a stone in Mount Eden Bond and was fined 10s and costs.

Assault: Mabel Jones, a young girl, wai charged on the information of tlio boy's mother with assaulting George Keonan, a small boy nine years of age. Evidence was given by the boy in question and his mother and sistei n.=» to tho offence being committed. The defendant was convicted and discharged with a caution.
