A man named Canning committed suicide at Hunfcerville on April 11. On the realised figures for 11 months, the railway revenue for the year is expected to be about £100,000 above the Minister's estimate, which was £1,760,000. The expenditure should be about £1,245,449, or £93,449 above the estimate. Ou April 20, at eleven o'clock, a new Roman Catholic Church at, Waihi war, solemnly dedicated by His Lordship Bishop Lenilian. Tin- church was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Every available space in tho large edifice was filled, many not obtaining admittance. A picked choir from Auckland rendered the choral portion of the services. A rearrangement of portfolios in consequence of the Premier's departure lias resulted in the members of the Ministry temporarily taking over the following :—Sir J. Ward, the Premiership, Treasury, Public Trust, and Commissionership of Taxes ; the. Hon. W. Hall-Jones, Defence and Labour; the Hon. C. H. Mills, Old Age Pensions; tho Hon. W. C. Walker, Government Insurance; and the Hon. T. Duncan, Laud for Settlement. The body of a man about, 38 years of age was found in the bush at Mornington, hanging by two straps from a tree. The ca.se is believed to be one of suicide. The knees were bent to prevent the toes touching the. ground. The man was evidently a labouring man. The body of the* man has been identified as that of J. H. Forsyth. He bad been working about stations in the Lake district, and had been accepted as a member of the Tenth Contingent. He was to have gone to Additigtoit with the rest, but did not put ill an a-ppearance at the last moment.
