An American paper says 'that the Sheldon pear is one of the best for the family garden and is also a good seller in a small way. iTlie treo is vigorous, hardy, productive, anjd a good grower. The fruit is of a russet colour, and superior in quality. : While it does j not present as fine an" appearance as the Bartlett or Clapp it is greatly prized for"; its high flavour. According to Mr. G. Bunyard, of England, whoso success ,in keeping apples in perfect condition for exhibition up to the very end of the apple season is remarkable, the secret [ of keeping the fruit perfectly sound is to have a fruit,room, with an ordinary earth floor, and to sprinkle the floor with water occasionally, to givo moisture to the atmosphere, even in winter. The majority of fruit rooms, ho adds, are much too dry for keeping fruit sound.'. ;
