TWO YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. (Received January 19, 5.1 p.m.) London, January 18. In connection with the trial of Dr. Krause the Lord Chief Justice (Lord Alverstone) decided that inasmuch as it was not proved that Dr. Krause's letters reached , Brocksma the charge of inciting to murder was not maintainable. The case, against him for attempting to incite to murder is proceeding. (Received January 20,-12.35 a.m.) London, January 19. Dr. Krause has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment, • the maximum sentence allowed on the charge of attempting to incite to murder. 'AN OFFICER'S WIFE SHOT.' London, January 17. The Boers surprised Willowdam, west of Mafeking, and shot the wife of an officer who was standing at a tent door. . AFTER TEtE WAR. London, January 17. Lord Milner, in a despatch dated November, stated that the whole of the loyalist refugees must return to the Transvaal and Orange River colonies before the Boer prisoners i are allowed to do so.
| BRAVE NEW ZEALANDERS. (Received January 19, 5.1 p.m.) , London, January 18. Lord Kitchener, in despatches dated December 8, mentioned Lieutenant G. D. Shern for gallantry in attacking a laager at Pongolabosch, and for good services Sergeant J. Davidson and Lance-Corporal W. Rutherford, in bringing in wounded under heavy fire. All belong to the New Zealand Seventh Contingent. Sergeant J. Walker, of the Fourth New Zealand Contingent, is mentioned for capturing unaided three armed Boers at a farm at Standerton. A number of Australians are also mentioned. NEW ZEALAND OATS. (Received January 20, 12.35 a.m.) London, January 19. The War; Office is buying largely New Zealand oats at £l 3s 6d. RETURNED TROOPERS. I: The following New Zealand troopers returned from South Africa, via Sydney, by the s.s. Zealandia ; last ■- evening:-—Sergeant A.. Bezar, :■ Corporal Collis, Troopers O'Shea, Nelson, Adams, Norton. ' In the list of returned troopers by the s.s. Aot-ea, published in the Herald on Saturday last F. J. Skinner, Seventh Contingent, should have been C. A. Skinner, South African iLight Horse. ' ,
