A BARQUE ASHORE.
FULL OF WATER.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Westport, Saturday. The Danish steel barque Alexandra, in. ballast, bound from Sydney to Westport, is ashore on Brighton Beach, about 30 miles south of Westport. Captain Unkerson, the master of the barque, wired from Charleston this afternoon. The crew are saved. The vessel is in a bad position, and is full of water. • There are many holes in the vessel's bottom, and the beams are broken and the deck smarted. He says there is no use to send a tug. No further particulars are available.
The Alexandra arrived at Sydney from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in ballast on January 7, and was floated into the Jubilee Dock for cleaning and painting. She sailed from Sydney for Westport on the 12th to load coal for Jaluit, Marshall Islands, and was to load copra in the Islands for Europe. The Alexandra was built at Copenhagen in 1891, and is owned by Mr. J. L. Shouboe, jun., of the same port. Her dimensions are: Length, 176.2 ft; breadth, 29.1 ft; depth, 16.7 ft; tonnage, 655.
