ARBITRATION COURT.

, . CARTERS' DISPUTE. The Arbitration Court continued its sittings at the Supreme Court yesterday, and heard further evidence in the dispute between the Auckland Carters' Union and the master carters, the class under consideration being the heavy carters. Messrs. Way, Davis, and Keane represented the union. Messrs. Winstone, Miller, and Templer appeared for the majority of the masters. . ....... *.. / :..- In giving tho decision of the Court upon, the question of .the retail grocers' carters being dealt with in the present dispute, His Honor said the difficulty was that a grocers' carter was not always employed exclusively, and he thought that in order to properly determine their wages the Court should go into the : wholo conditions of the grocery trade. Otherwise the Court could not give an award which, would do justice to both sides. The Court proposed to eliminate retail grocers from the present dispute, but if the Grocers' Assistants/Union did not present a dispute for hearing (including the grocers' • carters) within six . months the Court would hear.; an application from the Carters' ; Union on the question, and would join the grocers' carters to the parties in- the present dispute. 'A clause would be inserted in the present award to that effect. The wholesale. grocers were retained as parties to the present dispute. The hearing of evidence in the heavy carters' class was then resumed. /-■ A large number of witnesses were called by the employers' representatives in support of the wages and hours suggested by the masters as being fair and reasonable. ' The Court then adjourned till next Friday,, when the bakers' carters, the suburban carters, and one or two special cases in the heavy carters' class will be- dealt with. " •
