[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] COROMANDEL. THE Coromandel Wesleyan choi. proceeded to Opitonui on Saturday afternoon, to hold a concert in aid of the circuit funds. There was a good attendance, and a lons, programme was successfully carried out. The Rev. A. Mitchell conducted divine service on Sunday morning, in the hall, a <rood number of the folks turning out to the service. A public meeting; was held in the Council i social hall en Monday evening, for the purpose ot rescinding two preview resolutionsfirst, that the Queen Victoria rrernorial tablet be erected in the public school; and. secondly, that the unveiling cerenionv take place on the King's Birthday. After conI siderable discussion, both resolutions were rescinded. The following resolution was unanimously carried:—" That the memorial tablet to the memory of our late beloved I Queen be erected on the vacant triangle alloti ment in front of the post oliice, and be constructed of Coromandel granite." A strong committee was elected to carry out the j work, and all the ladies present greed to | take round subscription lists in aid of the object. Several gentlemen in the room pat I down their names for amounts to start the I list. ! HAMILTON. , I REGRET to have to report the death of ] another of the pioneer settlers of Hamilton, in the person of Mrs. John Atkinson, who came to the Waikato with the 4th Waikato Regiment, of which her husband was a member. The deceased lady, who was 67 year?, of age at the time cl" her death, had been ailing for some time, and hart been removed to the hospital for treatment, where she died on Tuesday evening. OHAUPO. j THE first cricket match of the season was played in Mr. Edwards' paddock on Saturday, when the United met the Te Awanmta Club. The result was a win for le Awainutu by four runs and four wicket?. The Misses Edwards kindlv provided afternoon tea. The scores were : Te Awamutu first innings. 2o : second innings. 40 : total. 63 and foul wickets to fall. United first innings, 40 ; second maines, 21. NGARUAWAHIA.
