AUCKLAND. NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY (LIMITED). Auckland Wool Stores, October 9. Horses: Horses have been brought forward in increased numbers, and a good demand has prevailed at prices in favour of the vendor. There was a large muster at the Durham Yards on Friday, and competition was good, nearly everything changing hands under the hammer. Heavy draughts soid at from £32 to £45 10s; medium do., £21 5s to £29 lba; light harness horses, £5 5s to £19 12s 6U; hacks, £3 10s to £12 7s 6d.

Cattle. At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday, dairy and store stock were penned in larger numbers than usual; beef in full numbers, the quality throughout being excellent. Still, prices were somewhat easier than the previous week. Oxen sold at from 21s to 24s per 1001b; cows, 17s to 20s; steers made from £6 10s to £11; cows, £3 10s to £7 17s 6d. A small draft of steers from Mr. H. Gollan averaged .£lO lCs; dairy cows. £3 10s to £7 ss; empty do., £3 5s to £4 18s; calves, £1 14s to £2 15s.

Sheep: The Newmarket Yards on Tuesday were well tilled, and fully kept the late advanced prices. Wethers sold at from 13s to 21s 6d; ewes, 10a 6d to 16s 9d. A truck of specially well-fatted wethers from Waikato, averaged £1 Os 9rf. Springs lambs were more plentiful than for some weeks, and sold well at from 10s to 15s 6d.

Pigs: Pigs were yarded in usual numbers. Porkers sold at from 15s to 575; weaners, 5s 6d to lis.

We held onr first and principal cattle fair of the season at the Papakura Yards on Monday, when we hud the largest sale ever held there— head being offered. Taking Die cattle as a whole, they were a very well-bred lot, and reflected great credit on the breeders, showing that they are not only careful in selecting good bulls but are also doing their young cattle well. Prices for grown cattle were fully maintained, other classes showing an easier tendency from the late very high prices that have been ruling. Buyers were present from Taranaki. Waikato, Tauranga, and all the surrounding districts. Grown steers sold at from £5 15s to £8 2s; a pen of extra, big bullocks made £9 15?. and were bought for workers; three-year-old steers, £4 15s to £6 17s; two-year-old do., £2 15s to £4 15s; cows, £3 10s to £4 17s; heifers, £2 15s to £4 ss: calves. £1 15s to £3 Is. At the I'ukekohe Yards on Wednesday tbtro was again a largo muster, and competition was good. Dairy cows sold at from £4 10s to £8 12s 6d; fat do., £5 5s to £6 17s 6d. Other classes of stock made fully Monday's prices. „ Hides, Skills, Tallow, etc. Our floor was full on Tuesday, everything being well competed for. . Hides: Market very strong, especially for well-Saved lines. Prime ox, 7d to 73d; stout, 5-; d to frld; medium, 5d to SJ-d; light. 4fcd to 43d- cow, 4d to 4Jd; stags', 2Jd to 3d; kip, 3d to Sid; calf, 4Jd to 5Jd; scored and cut, 111 to id less. . . Sheepskins: Prices were hardly maintained except for best conditioned. Large. 3s to 3s 7d- a few extras, to 4s 8d; small and medium, 2s 3d to 2s 9d; dry, 3d to 6d less; lambs, lOd. , nT Tallow: Best, rendered. 22a 6d to 23s 6d; inferior, 18s 9d to 20s, per cwt. Horsehair, 103 d per lb. Tails. Is 9d to Is lOd per dozen. Bones, 5s per cwt. . Maize: The market still remains very quiet, there being no demand for export. Current rates are 2s 3d per bushel, while 2s 4d has been obtained for extra prime samples. Oats- Present Southern quotation is equivalent to 2s 9d ci.f. Stocks here are not heavy. Chaff: Chaff shows no movement since last report. , . , , Potatoes: Market is much easier, sales having been made at £5 5s per ton on wharf. MESSES. ALFRED BUCKLAND AND SONS' REPOIiT. Horses: At the Haymarket, on Friday last, we had a full muster, though the quality was not up to the average. There is still a good demand for either really heavy draughts, it" young and active. Draughts, suitable for heavy spring cart or express work, the latter class selling at- prices varying with quality and age from £20 to £60; heavier classes up to £34; light harness horses, of good class, £12 to £16; strong cobs and gig horses, £9 to £12; ordinary light hacks. £4 to £7 each; second-hand harness, £2 to £4 10s the set; saddles, £1 to £2 10s each. Hav and Straw: Scarce, and at late values. Hides. Skins, etc.: In usual supply. Prices for hides were well maintained, heavy picked ox selling up to 63d, average 43d to bid; light ox and cow. 3id to 4id; kip. 3 5 d; call, 4d to 5Jd. Sheepskins: Fresh butchers, 2s 9d to 5s 7d- dry and country skins. Dairy cows sold from x 5 to £7 each; the store pens were well filled, but prices were scarcely as high. Dry cows brought from £2 15s to £4 7s 6d; yearlings £2 10s to £2 15s; strong calves, V, to ' 1 10s; 2 to 3-year-old steers, £4 to £6 10s. Fat and young calves, plentiful, sold freely- fresh-dropped, 8s to 12s; medium, 14s to 17s; heavy, up to £2 15s (70 sold). Fat cattle yarded in average numbers, and all of good quality sold at from £1 Is to £1 3s the lOOlbs, for steers and heifers; aged cow« 17s to 19s; steers ranged in price from £7 to £10 17s 6d; cows, £4 10s to £7 17s 6d (230 sold). Fat sheep came forward in usual numbers, and met with a good sale, heavy wethers bringing from 17s to 19s 9d: ewes, 14s to 16s 9d; others, 12s 6d to 15s (1200 sold). Lambs, plentiful, were required, and sold from 63 to 15s each (180 sold). Pigs came forward in larger numbers than for some time past, and those with condition improved in value considerably. porkers bringing from £1 5s to £1 15s; baconers up to £2 lis; small, 5s 9d to 12s 6d (90 sold). Sheepskins: From 2s 6d for small to 33 5d for large; average, 3s; dry. Is 6d to 3s; pelts, 4d to 9d; torn, 3d to 9d; lambs, 8d to Is. Messrs. Nolan, Tonks, anil Co. report, Havvera, Octobzer 4:—At Eltkam. on jctn ult., we had a good entry of cattle, and spirited bidding throughout the sale. At Uaweru, on 3rd inst., there was a heavy yarding and keen inquiry for all classes of stock, with the exception of two pens everything being disposed of. Abraham and Williams, report on October 1 on their Johnsonvillo sale as follows:—An average entry of bullocks of good quality were not so brisk as last week, and show a slight decline. Sheep, in short simply and of a fair quality, sold freely. We quote beef at 21s to 22« 6d.
