A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.! Paekoa, Saturday." . A man named C. Mackenzie, employed on the railway works, met with a serious accident this morning. It appears that he was using explosives, and was putting in a " primer,' with a view of enlarging the bottom end or the hole drilled for a subsequent charge. / He apparently dropped the small plug of gelignite into the hole, with a short piece of fuse attached, when an explosion immediately followed. The unfortunate fellow received the full force of the shot in his face, his front teeth being knocked out, and his face generally very badly cut. He was brought into Paeroa, and then taken on to the Thames Hospital for treatment.
