The Hastings correspondent of the Napier Telegraph says that a strange ending to a local sensation happened a few nights ago. Eastbourne-street is the street which runs behind the main street on the southern side. For some weeks past it has been said a ghost was on the job there; especially seeming to be on the look-out for' females, to frighten them. A resident in the street was determined to settle the matter, ghost or no ghost. By part of the arrangement, two of his sons did sentry-go on the night in question. Sure enough the (apparently) unearthly visitant made its appearance. No doubt the watchers disliked the job, but they were game anyhow, and one of them closed with the apparition. He clung, round its neck all he knew, and found it by no means ia airy nothing. It let out a scream that was blood-curdling, and sent a young lady living near by into hysterics for nearly an hour. The "™host" proved to be a married woman, living close by. It is only fair, however, to her to say that her husband declares that his wife's appearance on the occasion was an accidental one, and had nothing to do with the previous appearances complained of.
