GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.

RESULT OF THE HANDICAP MATCH. [BY TEIKGRAPIf. —«]>UCIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wejj.ixgton, Thursday. To-day, in perfect golfing weather, another round of the New Zoiland ohampionship, and the handicap medal match were played. The handicap was won by Mr. J. Duncan, a brother of the winner of the open championship, with a not score of 86. Mr. G. McEwon, of Dunodin, being second with one less. Mr. Arthur Duncan again distinguished himself by making the best round of 89 for the 18 holes. In the championship tho best match of tho day was between Arthur Duncan (Wellington) and G. Winslow (Auckland). Tho Auckland man stuck to his opponent till the second last hole, when ho wa6 four clown. Duncan got two up at tho start, playing a very protty four at tho second hole. The third hole was halved in six, and the fourth was won by Winslow, though both men played indifferent golf. The fifth hole was badly played by Duncan. He was bunkered twice, and eventually picked up his ball, flius giving the hole to his opponent— square. Winslow was In trouble ft the sixth hole, and Duncan, with a splendid drive against the wind, went out in four, and regained his lead of one up, At tho seventh hole both players made fint drives, and excellent approaches, Winslow running up low, »nd somewhat luckily. Dun can, with a capital long putt, went down ir throe, and was two up. At the "sheep-yards' 1 hole, however, he got in tho ditch, and Win slow again secured tho honour. Both player! drovs tho ninth gTeen, and Duncan, with ; splendid long putt, almost got the holo ii two. It was halved in three. Winslow misset his drive at tho crater, and also made a poo: Focond, but Duncan drove straight and higl into the crater, and went down in three, s< that he was again two up. Duncan got in another excellent drivi at tho twelfth holo, Winslow remarking, " It' rather heartrending to drive against a sho like that." Win?low got into trouble on tin right, and both approached (his rather trick; hole badly, niter their second shots. Duncan however, got down in six, so that ho was nov four up and six to play. Window, with his brassy, approached off the line, and shot to the right, and Duncan, out of a bad lie, got on the edge of the green with his iron. Winslow recovered his lost ground with a very pretty approach. Both players putted badly, Winslow thus missing his opportunity, and the hole was halved. At the 16th hole Duncan agaip outdrove his opponent, and the latter, foozling badly, lost the hole, and the match, after an excellently-contested game. D. Prydo rather easily disposed of Kenneth Duncan, After the first hole he played good golf, his shots on the green being particularly deadly. He did some excellent holes in the 13 played, doing nine of the holes after the first in 30, an average of 4. He won five of tho 13 holes by fine putting, doing " the lawn" and " the crater' 1 each is 3. Perston also disposed of Higginson somewhat easily. His score also was a very hot for the first nine, and 62 for the 15 played, the detailad score being;— 4, 4, 4, 3, 4, 6, 3, *, 3, 4, 5, 4, 4, 6. J. Holmes beat W. Lees, after a close game, the play, however, being hardly up to championship form. At a meeting of delegates representing the various golf olubs of the colony, held to-night, it was decided to form a Nov Zealand Golf Council, the constitution and rules of which were agreed upon.' It was decided that tie next championship meeting be held on the Otago Golf Club's links.
