SCHOOL READERS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington, Thursday. At the request of the New South Wales Typographical Association, a deputation from the Wellington Typographical Union waited upon the Minister for Education last night and submitted a statement from the Sydney association, to the effect that as Brook's series of Australian Readers for schools were produced under unfair conditions of labour, trades unionists were moving the Minister for Education for the mother colony in the matter. The Minister, in reply, said that the report that his Government had let a contract for a supply of the books to the firm in question was not correct. All that the Government had done iii the matter was to place the readers upon the list from which school books could he chosen by the Education Boards of the colony. However, owing to objections which had been raised against the books in various quarters, it was probable that a revision of the list would be made.
