KAURI GUM MARKET. TriE following are our quotations of kauri gum for the week ending August 23, 1899; — White gum Washed nuts, £32 and upwards; ordinary, £45 and upwards; good ordinary (unpicked), £50 and upwards; superior ordinary, £60 and upwards; pale, sound, £77 and upwards; East Coast (good quality), £74 to £75; rescraped, good, and free from swamp, £113 and upwards. Black gum: Nuts, £10 to £12; medium, £15 to £22; superior, £44 to £45. Arrivals for 23 days of August, 570 tons. The market remains quiet, and business lias been somewhat limited during the past week.

Bank shares: Bank of Australasia, £67; Bank of New South Wales, £45: Union Bank, £36; National Bank of New Zealand, £2 10s; Bank of New Zealand 4 per cent, guaranteed stock, 102£: Loan and Mercantile Agency 4 per cent, prior lien debentures, 95. Wheat at Mark Lane is 6d clearer on the week. The Harbinger's cargo was resold at £1 9s.

BUTTER AND CHEESE. Wellington', Wednesday. The Agent-General cables that butter and cheese prospects are encouraging.

DU.Nr.IJIN GRAIN MARKET. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Wheat: No change to report except that Tuscan is receiving a little more attention. Prime miling. 2s 5d to 2s fiid; medium, 2s 3d to 2s 4il; fowl feed, fair inquiry, up to 2s. Oats: Dulness continues to prevail in demand from outside parts, and the market is at nominal, and most stagnant. Prospects ahead are not looking very bright. Prime milling, up to Is sd: best feed. Is ti<l to Is 4d; medium and inferioi, Is Id to Is 3d.

ADDINGTON STOCK SALE. CHRISTCHURCn. Wednesday. The entries at Addington to-day numbered 5300 fat sheep and hoggets, 3158 store sheep, 366 cattle, and 257 pigs. Of 171 fat cattle, about 30 were from the North Island, bringing from £6 17s 6d to £9 7s. The local steers and heifers were mostly good sorts, and a slight improvement was noticeable, without an appreciable advance in price. Best steers, £7 5s to £8; others, down to £6 15s; heifers. £4 to £6 ss; cows, £3 12s 6d to £6 ss. The bulk of the fat sheep were unfinished lines of wethers, ewes being scarce. Prime heavy weight wethers and good ewes met keen competiton from butchers, and showed an advance, while good freezers held their own; but unfinished and doubtful lines were easier, and many lots were passed. Prime heavy- ! weight wethers, 18s 6d to £1 2s 6d; freezers and mixed sexe3, 16s to 18s; unfinished and doubtful sorts, 14s 6d to 15s fid; prime heavy ewes, 16s to 16s lid; good ditto, lis fid to 15s 6d; and others down to 12s; prime merino wethers. 13s to 15s 6d; and others down to 10s. The fat hoggets in brought from 103 3d to 14s sd. The bulk of the store sheep were ewes in lamb and without lambs. These met a fair demand, and rather better, but the prospects of spring weathei caused owners to increase their reserves, and a good many, were withdrawn at auction. Those that changed hands did so at from 13s lOd to 15s. I according to age. The only line of wethers sold brought 14s Id, and wethers and maiden ewes 13s lOd to 14s 6d. All the hoggets failed to reach the reserves. The fat pigs were a good lot, and met better demand for baconers, which averaged 3Sd pet lb; but porkers : were easier, at 41d per lb. mere was a strong demand for stores of all kinds. Five-weeks-old hall-bred Tamworths brought 15s per , head; baconers ranged from £1 18s to £2 8s; I porkers. £1 8s to £1 15s 6dj stores, £1 4s to I £1 10s; and weancrs, 13s to 17s 9d.
