riF A ., Mod ®V l ; i ] fo Insurant Company: Copies of the fiftieth annual report of the Augtralian Mutual Provident Society reached New York on May 24. This splendid company, which is an illustration of overythine a life msuranco company should be, is older than nearly a li the American companies. Lvidently life insurance made an early start in Australia. And it was not a false start Our enterprising neighbour to the south of the Hawaiian Islands has been free, to a great extent, from the imbecilities that have afflicted the life insurance system in 'ho United States. The business has been kept in the hands of educated men. The impossible has not been attempted, and tho result is very gratifying to all concerned, The annual meeting of the members of thb society was announced to be held in the hall of the Young Men s Christian Association, at Sydney, oil May 19. This year's report is called a Jubilee Report, and it deserves the title. It is made interesting by the reprinting of the director's first annual report, which was just as formal and exact,, in its tone as those wh. r h are issued to-day. Tho premium receipts of the first year were about 1300d015., the policies written covering 50,000d015, Now the assets amount to 75,00Q,000d015. . The , dignity, honesty, 'and frankness whioh have always characterised the . management of this company are worthy of the highest possible: praise .and encouragement.— Insurance Times, (New York), May, 1899,
