ATHLETIC SPORTS.

PUKEK.OHE FOOTBALL CLUB. ' The annualmeetiug of the Pukekohe Football Club was held iii the Pnkekohe Hotel April 11th, Mr. D. Jamiesou in the chair. The annual report showed that the Club had had a very successful setaon, both financially and as regarded the Cup contests. The receipts were largely in excess of the previous season, aud both senior and junior teams having won the ' franklin Rugby Union championships. C. Byre scored first in the Ppny Hurdles, the first event, L. Allen coming second. Marshall spurted ahead, securiug a good' ; lead, bat Marshall smashed the fifth hurdle, and in some way Wilson got mixed in the middle of it, allowing.YV&tson to come in. first;' and H. Riding horses ' between, nolesvplaced in a straight line, aud bending in and put without knocking them down, each rider having a separate row'of poles), the winner competed four times. Allen was first,' well second. Ladies' Bracelet, 14 entries, was a contest to see who could ride from one end of the field, dismount at a chalk line, lead his horse to a lady, get his needle threaded, mount his horse, and ride round a course. This looked a very risky business, some of the riders jumping off while nearly at full gallop. A Upton first, nominated by Miss K. McMillan : H. Bull second, nominated 'by Miss McMillan. . In the Higli Jump Handicap there were three competitors, 'who very keenly contested for first place. T. Wilson came in first, F. Bull and B. Marshall giving him three inches; B. Marshall second. The Jvahuhnra Cup, half-mile, for polo ponies, was another very excellent contest; seven competed; the ponies changing places several times. L. Allen put on a spurt at the second rouud, and came in first A. Upton second. , ,'•'■*.'

In the Polo Ball competition, some ol our best players seemed to be out of form. Ten competed, and the last heat was so evenly contested that B. Marshall, who was first, only got his ball in three yards in front of S. Wilson's (second). • Egg-and-spoon Race: riders to carry an egg in a spoon round the course, without dropping it.' In the first heat Allen was the only one who carried it round the course in the spoon, but as Marshall caught the egg in his lap and then placed it in his spoon, he was allowed to compete again, aud came in first, Allan second. 100 yds Flat : A. Upton 1, G. Vernon 2. The Gretna Green race was most amusing, the quuint dresses of the lady riders causing much merriment. Leonard Allen (lady) and H. Wilson 1. Arthur Wilson (lady) and T. Wilson 2. Five couples competed. There was a slight collision in this contest, which tended to mar the pleasure, but happily it passed off without any serious consequences. —[Own Correspondent.]
