In 1595 the sales of thoroughbreds in France, like those in England, were much better than the sales in 1894,1216 changing hands out of 1702 offered, as against 1123 out of 1706 in 1894 and 854 out uf 1226 in 1893. Out of this total 288 were yearlings, ami the average for these rose from about £120 to £160, ono yearling fetching £1200, while seventeen others made from £1000 to £500 each. The demand for brood mares \ias also very good, and it is interestingi.» note that of the twenty-one which fetchec the highest prices, from £920 to £240, thirteen had beoH sent over from England to Deauville or Paris, these including the Australian ninre Mods Meg and the five others which fetched the most money. The number of foals sold was 75, and of these2o fetched from £220 to £40 each, which is considered in France to be a very fair price.
