THE GOLDFIELDS.

jf![wr «LHOBAPH,-O\VN GORREBPON DHNT3. ] Thames, Friday. Sharemarkm.—Cambria, sailers, Is 9dj Albarniu, sellers, 63; Victoria, sales 2s, Is Id, 2a 3d, sellers 2« 4d, buyers 2s Id; Puriri, sellers lid; Waihi Monument), sales Is; Waihi South, sellers IsGd; May Queen, buyers 8s 3d. Adbuidk.— tender of Cater and party at £310s per foot) has been accepted for continuing the sinking of this company's new shaft, and the tender of Hands and party, at £2 63 Od per foot, has been accepted for continuing the rise from the adit level in order to meet the shaft. Both parties commenced their respective contracts last night. The shaft is now down a total depth of 97 feofc. Argosy.—A distance of about 50 feet has now been driven upon the leader from Which the golden stone exhibited about a fortnight ago was broken. The leader is about a foot in thickness, and continues to show strong colours of gold, so that when its junctiou with the main reef is arrived at) there is every probability of good results being l obtained. A considerable amount of prospecting work is being carried on in this mine, and several nice-looking quartz bodies have lately been discovered. May Queen'.—Driving east and west upon the course of No. 4 reef at No. 4 level is still being continued, and in the eastern drive very fair results are being met with, but westward the reef has been rather small for several days past, although it is encased by good sandstone country. The stopes upon No. 4 reef and the north west lode continue to yield the chief supply of quartz for keeping the company's 32-head stamper going full time, the balance being mado up from the Btopes in the Trenton section and the two winzes upon Ciarkin's leader in the Saxon section. The quartz coming to hand from each of thsso scopes is of fair quality, and is shaping for the usual average return at the battery. Mr. Burch intends to clean up and retort from the past month's run on Monday next. Hazsibank.—A crushing of 34 loads of quartz was completed for this company at the Moanataiari battery this morning for the payable return of 3oozsdwts of melted gold. The quartz which made up the above crushing was obtained from the rise upon the cross reef abovo No. 1 level, and from the stopes upon Kelly's loader. A start has now been made to open out on the cross lode at the top of the rise for the purpose of opening up an intermediate level, and as ventilation is required for this work the men that woro working upon Kelly's leader have been romovod to the old stopes upon the Young American leader in order to drive a crosscut to connect with the rise. The cross lode is between two and throe feet in thickness, and in addition to carrying favourable mineral indications a little gold is also seen when broaking the quartz. There appears to bo every prospect ot a remunerative block of ground being opened up upon it. Paeroa, Friday. Waitkkauri Extendkd,—The new lode recently intersected has been penetrated for a length of five feet without any sign of the footwall. Tho formation is a strong body of ore, and should opou up well when proved. Rod Roy.— crosscut has now been carried in 42 foot, so that the lode should be intersected now at any time. TE AROHA WARDEN'S COURT. Paeroa, Friday. At the ordinary monthly sitting of tho Warden's Court, bofore Mr. R. Bush, Warden, tho following applications for protection were granted: — Sceptre and Scoptre Extended, six months; R. Burke, permission to work tho Welcome licensed holding wtth one man instead of three for three months. An application mado by W. Newshaw for a quartz claim, three men's ground, was also granted, while the following special claims were recommended to bo granted :-J. A. Pond, Day Dawn; Edward Griffiths, Grand Junction spepial claim (in this case it was stated that £2000 . was available for prospecting the property, and that if the prospects wore in any way encouraging, it was intended to float a oompany in ordor to work the ground systematically); William Newshaw, Extended special claim : Evidence was offered in this case that the ground applied for was taken up with a viaw to increasing the area of the Loyalty, and placing the same upon tho English markot. In fact there was now every probability of tho same being floated with a working capital of £20,000. A large number of miscellaneous applications were adjourned. GOLD SHIPMENTS. The National Bank of New Zealand shipped by the Manapouri for Sydney yesterday, four boxes containing bullion to the value of £5200. Tho Bank of New South Wales also shipped by the Manapouri two parcels of bullion, containing 838oz 12dwt. WAIHI SOUTH. A largely-attended meeting of shareholders in the Waihi South Gold Mining Company was held yesterday at the olfica of Mr. D. G. MaoDonnell. Mr. Hugh Campbell presided. A statement of accounts showing liabilities £171 12s 7d, and assets, balance due on call, £220 2s Id, was laid before the mooting. The Chairman in moving the adoption of the accounts stated that it had been arranged that an English company should be formed, with a capital of £175,000 in shares of £1 each; a working capital of £40,000 was to be provided ; the Auckland shareholders to receive 39 paid-up shares for every 80 now held, j He then went on to state that from latest I roports the Welcome reef was in lino with the VVaihi South shaft. It had been suggested that the perinauent works should bo nearer the Waihi hill. The shaft was now down 147 feet, and was a substantial ono in every way, and would be useful even if the permanent works were removed nearer to the Waihi hill. Mr. John Chambers seconded the adoption of the statement of accounts. In answer to questions, The Chairman said the Waihi Proprietary Gold Mining Company, Limited, was the title of the company formed in England for the purchaso of the property ot the Waihi South. Tho latter should be wound up as quickly as possible. It was a mistake to say that thero were any Waihi Proprietarys on the market. According to the agreement Waihi Proprietary shares could not be placed upon the market for nine months from the registration of the company in England. Waihi South shares, however, could be transferred as long as the transfer books were open. By a London financial paper ho saw that the company had been registered seven or eight weeks ago. He could, in answer to rumours, state authoritatively that the oompany had been floated, and he could say also that it had been floated in the shortest time and at tho least expense on record. The statement of acoounts, etc,, was then adopted, and a vote of thanks to the chairman concluded tho proceedings. WAIHI CONSOLS. _ An extraordinary meeting of shareholders in the Waihi Consols was held yesterday, at the offico of Mr. H. Gilfillan, jun. Mr. A. Wright was in the chair. The chairman stated that the meeting had been called together for the purpose of empowering the directors to soil the property. Ho did not think it advisable to state the terms or proposals, as he was wishful not to prejudice negotiations. Mr. Allen asked if the Board could state whether cash was inoluded in the offer or not? The chairman said cish was not included in the proposals; payment would be in fully paid-up shares, and_ there would be a substantial working oapital. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Harper, it was agreed to empower the directors to dispose the property on such terms as they thought fit. SOUTH BRITISH. _ An extraordinary general meeting of the South British Gold Mining Company was held at the office of Mr. W. Clarke yesterday afternoon. Mr. 0. B. Stone presided. The business was to consider ana if thought fit pass the following resolutions" 1. That the directors of the oompany be, and they are hereby authorised to sell the property of the company on suoh terms and conditions as they may think fit. 2. That the directors of tho company be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered to exeoute all necessary deeds to effectuate any sale." Tho Chairman, in moving the resolution said that the company had received an offer from an English company, which proposed to buy the property, together with the Karangahake and Mariner mines. A new company, if the negotiations succeeded, would be formed, with a oapital of 150,000 shares of £1 each, each company to receive 25,000 shares fully paid up. Tho English company would provide £25,000 as working capital. Shareholders would receive one fully paid up share in the new company for every 235 th shares in the old company. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Four-in-hand (Coromandcl, November 25), —We struck the top of leader this morning. I took some stone out and am glad to say I have got gold. I could wish to have given fuller particulars, but we only touched the top and I have the men shooting the footwall to atrip her. The leador dipped very flat and the tunnel is in about 76 feet Moanataiari North (Thames, November 27).— Driving on the reef haS been carried on as usual. The reef in the face of the level is now one foot thick and looks favourable for gold, being encased in a nico sandstone country and carrying good mineral. Should wo meot with a junction of another leader we may expect to obtain something good. The reef has somewhat altered its course during the last week, running now nearly an east and west course, consequently we will have a length of about 1000 feet to drive before we reach our boundary. The rise on tho reef started last week is now up a distance of ten feet, the reef being eighteen inches thick and looking very well. Wo have broken out six tons of quartz at this point and forwarded the same to the battery for treatment, and should it turn out payable we can obtain a large amount of crushing dirt from this souroe, as we have a block of ground opened up for a distance of about 120 feet in length by over 100 feet in height. British Empirb (Watoikmiri, November 25).— have pushed on No. 1 drive during the week another 15 feet. The class of country is the same, with a few leaders running through. I am expecting to cut the reef I believe to be there in about another 20 feet or so. The class of country in this drive is very good. It is also very hard. There are some nice little leaders running through it which give fair mortar prospects,
