NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS.
| m . Wellington, November 12. A TOTAL of 1050 candidates have entered for this year's University examinations against 947 last year. Competitors from the various centres are :— Auckland, 148; Gisborne, 14; Wellington, 14G; Nelson, 40; Christclmrcli, 255; Dunedin, 279 ; Invercargill, 28 Napier, 23;Wanganui, 42; Polmerston fsortli, 15; Greymouth, 19; Timaru, 17 : Oamaru, 15.
The number of candidates for entrance to the University is 03(, while of those within the University there are 197 candidates in the faculty of arts, 15 in the faculty of science (ordinary), 9 in the faculty of science (professional), 30 in the faculty of law, 40 in the faculty of medicine, 4 in the faculty of music. Outside the University there are. 1.10 students for the legal profession, and 11 for the teaching profession. Tho following are. from Auckland 6 for honours, 1 for M.A. pass, 1 for LL.D. pass, 4 for LL.B. pass, 2 for Medical Intermediate, 1 for B.Sc. pass, 18 for B.A. pass, 1 for senior scholarship, 1 for tho 1851 exhibition for the barristers' general knowledge, 15 for the solicitors law, 3 for barristers law, and 1 for certificate of proficiency.
