The consignment! of live stock frota Sydney to London by the Southern Cross was the largest) ever sonb from' Australia. The vessel had on board 550 cattle, nearly 500 sheep, and 29 horses. There were losb on the voyage 50 cattle, 80 sheep, and one horse. Taking the cattle and the sheep all round, it is alleged that in quality the animals were nothing to brag about). It) seems that the cost of landing the bullocks in London, including freight, fodder, and other expenses, bub nob the fireb cost of the animals, was £14 per head, while the sheep cost) £1 5s each to land at their destination.
