x Mazeppr., . commenting on Euroclydon triple victorv at Riccarton, says This is not only the first timo that a Gorton has won the New Zealand Cup, but the first time that one of that sire's progeny has ever started for the big handicap. And no Gorton had ever before run in tne Canterbury Cup; noriu the Derby either, with the solitary exception of Errington two years ago. No wonder Gorton is a new name in these lists. He has nevorhad a chance. Have we been making a mistake all these years in supposing that the chestnut who is so'largely imbued with Stock well blood ' oan get only sprinters? Hardly. I should think; though, mark you, Blizzard could stay right enough, as ho one© proved in ft trial run 111 ■Melbourne.
