Victoria. crushing of three loads of quartz from Towers' leader at No. 4 level was completed bo-day for the return of lloz 18dwb gold. Sheridan (Tapu).—Mr. E. McDonnell, managing director of this company's proEerty, informs me that all operations will e suspended on Saturday next, with the exception of extending the low level until the negotiations for the sale of the mine are completed. Kakanqahake Tailings.—The complete return from the treatment of the 12 tons of tailings brought down to the Moanataiari Battery by Mr. JH. Gordon is 131oz 12dwb of retortod gold. These tailings were obtained from the Ohinemuri River near the point whore they were discharged into the river from the New Zealand Crown Minos Company's rod action works, and Mr. Gordon states that there is still a large tonnage of a similar class of tailings available which he purposes dealing with. That there should be such a large percentage of gold left in the tailings after having been passed through the cyanido process would seem to imply thab there is something wrong in the system of treatment adopted at the works, bub the company will now no doubb take the necessary steps to prevent further loss in this direction.

Alburnia.—Mr. Dunlop to-day banked 110 ounces retorted gold as the resulb of 230 tons of quartz treated from Dixon's reef during the pasb four weeks. Owing bo the stopes upon Dixon's reef above No. 1 levol having bo be abandoned until tho wet season has passed over, Mr. Dunlop has decided to somewhat curtail operations in the mine for the present, consequently the works now in progress are the sinking of the company's shaft with nine men, extending tho eastern drive upon Dixon's reef at No. 1 level with two men, and prospecting Christie's leader at the same level with two men. A limited supply of quartz will be won from the two latter points, which will be treated ab bhe end of each month until regular crushing can again bo instituted, but in tho meantime the company's battery will be utilised for public crushing. May Qoekn. —The manager of this mine to-day reported the getting of 60 pounds picked stone, obtained from the following points :—Thirty pounds from tho stopes upon No. 4 reef above No. 4 level, 10 pounds from the drive upon the north-west lode, 10 pounds from Olarkin's loader in the winze below No. 8 level, Saxon section, and 10 pounds from the same leader in the atopes above No. 3 level. The eastern drive upon No. 4 reef ab No. 4 level is now in a distance of 254 foeb, bub the reef is divided into two branches with a band of aandstono running between them. The average thickness of the two branches combined is about two foeb, and colours of gold are seen in the quartz coining from both of them. Upon the northwest lode a distance of 304 feeb in now opened up, which leaves between 40 and 50 feeb yeb bo drive to reach the junction with No. 4 reof. The lode averages two feet in thickness, and shows strong dabs of gold ab every breaking down. Boring operations with the rock-drill wore resumed to-day in the Trenton crosscut with the objocb of intersecting the hangingwoll of No. 3 reef. In cut-' ting through Nos. 1 and 2 reefs in this crosscut the other day about five loads of quartz were obtained which hare since been treated ab the company's battery for a yield of amalgam equal to about l.Joz of gold per load of quartz. This is a very satisfactory return, and shows thab the company is possessed of a good class of quartz in that section of their property. Tho total amount of amalgam on hand at the battery yesterday as the result of the crushing operations carried on during the month was 13'J0oz. The general cleanup and retorting for tho month will tako place on Friday next. Pakroa, Tuesday. Victor.—ln tho Royal Mail portion of this property a drive has boon pub in a distance of 60 feet near the Bonanza boundary, and at this point a nice reef, about four feeb wide, has just been intersected. The quartz is highly mineralised, and is encased in good country, bub ib is nob the manager's intention to develop this lode at present, as he is anxious to get possession, some distance ahead, of a large quartz body, the outcrop of which is found 70 feet above the level, and gives good prospects by mortar test. Driving is also in progress ab the junction of the Royal Mail and Tenakoe sections with a view to intersecting the Golden Treasure lode. So far a distance of 14 or 15 feet has been opened up, and the country shows a disposition to become firmer as the drive advances. A nice little loader about six inches thick is also being carried along in the drive, and occasionally shows a few colours of gold. Grace Darling.—The reef in the intermediate level has now opened out bo 18 or 20 inches, and during the last few feeb more encouraging prospects than for some time past have been obtained. A change for the batter also appears to have seb in in tho low level, the indications being thab the blue country is giving place bo brown oxidised country, which is making its appearance under foot.
