SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. T. CA WTE.

Our Te Kopuru correspondent writes :— Following close on the painful death of Mr. John Herkb's little girl, came the news of the sudden death of Mr. Thomas Cawte, also of the Kopuru district. Mr. Cawte, formerly of Sydney, came to this districb a Caw years ago, t.v.6. resided first in the parsonage at Te Kopuru with one of his daughters. He was an artist by profession, and is said to have lost considerably by the collapse of a Building Society in Sydney. He took up a piece of land at the Kopuru Spur, about half-way between Kopuru and Redhill, and went to reside there with his daughter on leaving the parsonage about five years ago. Soon afterwards his daughter married, and deceased, who was 75 yoars of age, has since been living by himself in a dwelling nob far from his daughter's. Mr. Cawte was well-known for the manner in which he laid out his section, and for his care of the roads in his immediate locality. An inquosb was hold on Tuesday afternoon, and the evidence taken showed that his daughter resided about 300 yards from deceased's residence. She saw him alive on Saturday, when he appeared as usual, except that for some time ho had complained of indigestion. The evidence of Mr. Frier was to the same effect, and he saw him on Sunday afternoon, and during a conversation deceased remarked that he would never see another summer, but seemed as cheery as usual. On Monday afternoon the baker found him lying at the door dead, but still warm. The jury, of whom Mr. Neil McLeod was foreman, returned a verdict of "Found dead." Docoased was buried at Redhill. He leavos two daughters in Sydney, and Mrs. Frier near whom he lived.
