WARNING FROM COOLGARDIE.
[BY tjclkgbaph.— correspondent.] Tauranga, Thursday. Mr. C. C. Napier, who recently returned here from Australia, and who is selling off to go to Coolgardie, where ho holds some important mining interests, publishes in last nighb'a Times an emphatic warning to those thinking of rushing away to the new El Dorado without sufficient means. He publishes the following extract from a letter he has received by the last mail from a friend ab Coolgardie :—"To point out to you the poverty, misery, and suffering that many endure in this place is altogether beyond me. People are arriving daily and in an almost penniless condition. Some fortunately have enough to return with, but the majority are compelled to remain and literally beg for sufficient to exist upon. Of course, as you know, many are doing well, but in spite of the fact that the papers are continually pointing oubbhab Coolgardie is no poor man's field hundreds are arriving here each week, and only a small porportion of them with any means." Quite a number of residents here, both old and young, have been thinking of making off to Coolgardie, but the warning of Mr. Napier last night has put quite a damper on their enthusiasm and altered the cincture of their golden dreams, especially as Mr. Napier being a well-known resident here the information sent by his correspondent can be thoroughly relied on.
