FRUIT IMPORTATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, This being the time of the North American apple harvest, would not our importers make a good profit out of apples seeing that they at present fetch 6d per lb retail ? Their present high price puts them out of reach of the middle and industrial classes of our community. If there is a protective tariff it might in times of scarcity adopt the English sliding scale on breadstuffs 40 or 50 years ago.— am, etc., £osscm*;r.
