OUR HEALTH.
TO THE EDITOR. —How is it possible tor the city officials to keep the city clean and free from fever or other contagious epidemics ? Seven persons were summoned yesterday for dirty backyards. Six of them were fined 5s each without costs, so that the fines inflicted will be insufficient to pay the costs, apart from tha time and labour of two employees. Are such sentences a deterrent ? Of course poor peopl* are to be pitied, but they are not all poor and such penalties are only an encouragement for others to be careless and indifferent.— am, etc., A Word in Season.
