THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION*.] Christciiukcii, Tuesday. A largely-attended public meeting tonight convened by Easb and Wesb Coast Railway League passed a motion thanking the Canterbury members of the House of Representatives for their zealous and untiring service in the cause of the railway, and directing that the resolution bo recorded in the minute-book as a mark of the appreciation of the people of Canterbury ; thanking the chairman and Executive Council of the Railway League, and expressing the opinion that every candidate for Parliamentary honours should pledge himself to support by every means in his powfcr the prosecution of the railway to an ultimate conclusion ; according special thanks to members of Parliament from pther districts than Canterbury, kelson, and Westland, who voted for the railway, and recognised it a 9 a colonial work. The Mayor occupied the chair, and among the speakers were the Hon. W. P. Reeves and Messrs. Sandford, Tanner, Taylor, and Guinness, M.H.R.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Wellington, Tuesday. The Premier and Mr. Roberb Wilson, the manager of the Midland Railway, have been engaged for the past two days in conference as to the details of the new contract to be submitted to the directors in London, before being sent home. The law officers will be asked to report upon the legal effect of the separate clauses. Mr. Wilson will, probably, proceed to London by the next mail steamer.
