THE PUBLIC REVENUE. The receipts for the quarter ending September 30 were as follows :— Customs £420,569 5 8 Stamps 139,688 4 7 Postal & Telegraph (cash receipts) 5,272 15 4 Property Tax 387 18 10 Beer Duty 12.431 8 6 Railways 243,440 11 9 Registration and other fees ... 17,999 9 1 Marine 4,257 11 8 Miscellaneous £.. ... 15.889 0 8 The Customs duties for October amounted to £122,412, against £152,509 last month, and £139.757 last October. Auckland contributed £27,877 ; Wellington, £24,288; Christchurch, £20,266; Dunedin, £28,301. Beer duty amounted to £4904, against) £4573 in September, and against £5058 in October last year. Auckland contributed £1039; Wellington, £614; Christchurch, £902; Dunedin, £1129. QUARTERLY SHIPPING RETURNS. The depar. tures were :—To United Kingdom, 60; New South Wales, 332; Victoria, 210; Tasmania, 18 other places, 76 : total, 898.
