A CHILD BURNED TO DEATH.
A FATHER'S INHUMANITY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION]. DtJNEDiNi Thursday. A three-year-old child of Andrew Blues, a storeman, was burned to death last night. The mother is in gaol, undergoing sentence for larceny, and her two children were being cared for by a hired girl twelve years old. Before leaving at half-past nine o'clock, the girl placed the baby in the cradle, a few feet from the fire. An hour latter she saw smoke issuing from the house, and gave an alarm, but Blues, who had been drinking, refused to allow the neighbours to enter the house. Eventually two men, Robinson and Robertahaw, did so, rescuing the child, but so injured that it died at midnight. At an inquest on the child, the jury returned a verdict that there was no evidence to show how the fire originated. They commended the conduct of the two men who had forced their way into the house.
