The ladies of Arapohue and of Dargaville have each held their leap year balls, and our ladies, not to be outdone, followed suit on Wednesday, May 18. The preparations made were very complete ; the decorations, the catering, the music, etc., were all well attended to, and everything gave satisfaction. The ladies had not neglected themselves. The array of new dresses was quite imposing, and many of them were extremely beautiful and fine. But it must not be considered that the young men were above this love of display, for many of them made special efforts to look nice, and carry off the beauship. Altogether the approach of the ball was quite a harvest for dressmakers and tailors, but possibly the butchers, bakers, and grocers had to bear the brunt. The hall was quite tilled, and the front of the stage had been removed to give the dancers more room. Miss Neddrie and Miss Scott were the M.C.'s, and they performed their duties iu an excellent manner. The bachelors are talking of a return ball in a, month or two. I must not omit to mention that the young ladies picked out and decorated Mr. J. A. Rhodes as the beau of their ball.— Correspondent.] ,
