AUCKLAND STOCK AMD SHARE LIST.

Since our last report the market has kept almost completely stagnant. Investment in even first-class stocks has been extremely limited. Holders are chary of selling, and buyers hang back hoping for an all round fall in the market, which has already suffered severely, caused by the doubt and uncertainty of the future existing in the minds of business men. Money is plentiful, but investments for its outlet hard to find, 6 per cent, and 7 per cent, can be got for first-class securities. ■ Banks.—Bank of New Zealand are quiet, and few sales made with a slightly downward tendency. Colonial Bank's are hrm, the declaration of the usual dividend gave satisfaction. , A fair business has been done in the stock. National Bank's are quiet, there being no immediate enquiries for the shares. Insurance.—New Zealand have been dealt in at lower rates for no other reason than the prevailing dullness in the market. National: A good business has been done in this stock, and remains steady. Union are firm with but few sellers. Standards are about the same. Accidents keep up their usual price, and but few change hands. Miscellaneous. —Loan and Mercantile are quoted about the same, buyers offering 52s at the commencement of the month, but are now asked for at 50s, with sellers at 52g. Land Mortgage : A very fair business has been done at 7s 9d to Ss 6d, and the market remains steady. Union Oil and Kempthorne Vio&m J)ru« Company are firm; bueiaeas

has been done at prices quoted. Devonporfc -Ferry :No transactions are reported. Ine shares are firmly held, bat few ever offering on the market. Northern Steam : There are buyers at low rates. New Zealand Shipping: 'No business done in these in this market. Coal.—All shares in coal companies in the North are rather dull of sale. _ .. Mining.— industry, so important to this part of the colony, is quietly though slowly making good progress. Ihe output of gold is perhaps not so great as of yore, but new ventures are being opened up, notably at Waiomo and Kuaotunu, which should, in the near future prove profitable to the investors in mining and give employment to a large, number of miners in the coming summer. The efforts to pitch upon the best method or process of saving all the gold ' from our different ores are unceasing, and must cro long be crowned with success. When that result is achieved mining on our. fields around Auckland will be looked upon rather as a good profitable investment than a speculation. The following table shows the fluctuations for the month :— '
