VOL UNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
- PONSOh'BY AVALS. Major Gorlsq has for some days been engaged in examining the Ponsonby Naval Artillery in gunnery for the year 1890. On Saturday they were examined in big gun drill at Port Resolution, two detachments being formed, and the men acquitted themselves so creditably as to draw from Major Goring expressions of satisfaction and commendation. On Monday they were examined in knotting and splicing, and also questioned on the theoretic portion of the examination. Three of the men were unable to attend the examinations owing to accidents, but these Major Goring has consented to examine by themselves. It is intended that the company shall {jo into camp next mouth and put in a fortnight at gun drill at the Fort, at the end of which the examinations for this year will be held. It is suggested that the Auckland Navals should go into camp at the same time, and there is no doubt this would be very desirable as both companies would bo able to drill together, and the increased number in camp would afford better opportunities for combined movements. ROYAL IRISH. A parade of the Royal Irish was hold last evening at the Drill-shed. It was intended that it should have been an inspection parade, and it was. called before the announcement for' the daylight parade which takes place on Saturday afternoon at/half- three o'clock was made. The attendance was fair, there being 30 in the ranks under the command of Captain Tobin, and in the absence of any inspection the captain commanding pub the company through a good stiff course of infantry drill, '
