The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s clipper Waitangi, now 01 days out from London for this port, has a varied cargo valued at £21.900. She should be shortly making her appearance on this coast. The incoming mail steamer Mariposa from San Francisco having left one day late, is not due here till to-morrow, but it is quite probable that she will make a fa3t trip and get into port this evening. Yesterday the Northern S.S. Co. received further advice concerning their new steamer Waiotahi, now on her way from home, in that cable news has come to hand to the effect that she had passed Thursday Island "All well" on the 6th instant. She should reach Auckland before the end of this month. The Shaw Savill and Albion Co.'s barque Himalaya will haul out into the stream this morning in readiness to sail for Timaru, where she is to load for London.

The Hauraki S.S. Co, purpose to appoint Captain Bettis, of the 3.5. Ruby, to the new steamer Paeroa, and Captain N. Svendsen, lately of the schooner Louie, will take charge of the s.s. Ruby. The repairs and alterations to the Dredger No. I*2l are now completed, and she is in a "ood deal better condition to contend with bad weather than when she returned to port. She will probably resume her interrupted voyage to Melbourne to-day. The owners of the brigantine Sarah Pile, recently stranded at Tairua and brought up here for repairs, have elsewhere invited tenders to overhaul and repair the vessel, and all offers are returnable by Friday. After in" out of commission for a couple of mouths, the Northern S.S. Co.'s Thamc3 steamer, Rotomahana, yesterday had up steam for the first time since her overhaul. The vessel lias a thorough refitting both in her engine and passenger departments, and 13 now almost a new vessel. The Rotomahana has had her ■ engines completely overhauled, and her propeller increased and altered, so that it is expected she will have her speed increased to such an extent that she will be able to accomplish the run to the Thames in four hours. On her run up the harbour yesterday her machinery ' moved well, and the vessel sped along in first-class style. She is to-day to go down to Drunken Bay to have her compasses adjusted, and will make a trial trip on Saturday. Site has still Borne repainting, etc., to be given her, and will be ready to resume her regular service by the middle of next week.

NEW VESSELS. On August 8 a steel baique was launched lit Londonderry. She has been built by 31 r. Charles J. Bigger to the order of Messrs. .1. ) Henry Iredale and Co., lor their " Dale " line of sailing ships. She was christened Parkdale. Her dimensions are Length, 218 - nft; breadth, .'l7'Utt; depth of hold, 21 "9ft. Her register tonnage is 1300, and her carrying capacity is 2100 tons. * ' j Messrs. Ramage and Ferguson launched on August 5 at Leith, a steel four-masted sailing ship named TheDrumrock, built to the order of Messrs. Gillison and Chad wick, Liverpool. Her dimensions are:—Length, .'l,'iOft; breadth, 4oUt; depth, 28ft; net tonnage, 3000 tons : j carrying capacity, 4800 tons. She is fitted I with all the best machinery for working cargo, etc., and she has a bridge-deck amidships, beneath which the petty ollicers and crew are housed, instead of in the forecastle. A steel barque of £200 tons register is building at Glasgow for Captain Kustel, of San Francisco, and will be launched this month. 'ill", price naid for 'this vessel is £10,100. Spedding, arrived from Wellington via Nelson and New Plymouth at Onehiinga yesterday at 1.30 p.m. She left Wellington at 7 p.m. on the 4th instant, and arrived at Nelson at 7 iv,ni. on the sth; left again,for New .Plymouth at 7 p.m. the same day,- arriving there at noon on the 6th ' instant; she left > again for the Manukau at 11 p.m., crossed, the bar at 11.50 a.m. on the 7th instant, and

arrived at the wharf 03 above. The steamer experienced a strong north- gale as far as Nelson with moderate sea.
