ACTION FOR ALLEGED SLANDER.

[BY TELEORAPII. —I'KKSS ASSOCIATION.] Dunkdin, Thursday. At the Supreme Court to-day James Geo. Strachen sued W. A. Stout, solicitor, claiming £300 damages for alleged slander, on the following words :—"lf he (the plaintiff) refused to go away from the colony, he would be branded as a felon, and his children also, should he have any, unless the defendant could keep a prosecution back." Tho defence was a general,denial, and tho plea that if tho words wero spoken it was in course of a long and confidential conversation with the plaintiff's wife and mother-in-law. Tho defendant is tho brother-in-law of the plaintiff, the latter being the son of Wm. Strach'an, deceased. After a good deal of evidence had been taken, Mr. Fraser, who appeared for the .plaintiff* abandoned the case, and a verdict was given for tho defendant.
