AUCKLAND ORCHESTRAL UNION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your issue of Thursday, " Enquirer" asks whether this association is "dead" or "only sleeping." Let him be assured that neither sleep nor death is likely to overtake the union for some time to come at all events. The concert is, according to prospectus, due only about the middle of this month, so there need be no great hurry as yet. The committee had, however, intended that it should take place on the 2nd inst., but unexpectedly the Citizen's Ball was announced for that date, and the committee felt constrained to give place to the more prominent event. The 9th had to be passed over on account of the Government House ball_ and the 16th had already been specially excepted in the agreement with the agents for the hall trustees as being pre-engaged for the Chrysanthemum Show. The concert has now been fixed for the earliest possible date, the 23rd, which after all is little more than a week beyond the approximate date given in that prospectus. " Enquirer" may be reminded that the Orchestral Union is now, as regards membership, upon the same footing as the Choral Society, and the concerts are open only to annual subscribers. (For the convenience of strangers and others a limited number of tickets will be on sale at the hall doors on the concert night at 2s Gd each.) The Erognunmes are now in preparation, and will e issued shortly. On behalf of the Auckland Orchestral Union I have to thank " Enquirer" for the very flattering terms in which he refers to the efforts made by the Union towards forwarding the cause of music in Auckland.—l am, etc., H. F. Windsor, Chairman of Committee, Auckland Orchestral Union. Auckland, April 10,1891.
